Expedition Learning: A Day of Service, Fellowship, and Cross Country

On Thursday, October 22, Springfield Lutheran High School (SLHS) students and staff took learning beyond the classroom for a day filled with service, fellowship, and school spirit. As part of SLHS's Expedition Learning experiences, students had opportunities to serve others, strengthen relationships, and encourage their classmates.

The day began at Thunder Thrift, a thrift store established to support SLHS, its students, and families. Students and staff worked together to sort through a large collection of donated items, making significant progress while discovering a few treasures along the way! Through their volunteer efforts, students experienced firsthand how giving their time and talents can make a meaningful difference.

After enjoying lunch outdoors in Lebanon, the group traveled to Roubidoux Park in Waynesville for the District Warmup Cross Country Meet. One particularly meaningful moment came when members of another team joined Coach Lundien's opening prayer. It was a wonderful reminder that opportunities to share our faith and encourage others extend well beyond our own school community.

SLHS students enthusiastically cheered on cross country athletes throughout their races. The Lutheran Lightning's blue and gold were proudly on display beneath the school's new canopy, made possible through the generosity of a special donor. We are grateful for this thoughtful gift and the continued support of our growing athletic program!

The group concluded the day with dinner together before returning home.

At SLHS, Expedition Learning provides opportunities for students to grow through experiences outside the traditional classroom. Whether volunteering at Thunder Thrift, supporting teammates, or connecting with others through prayer, this day offered meaningful examples of students living out their faith, building relationships, and serving others with joy.
