Expedition Learning- Full Circle Gardens

Students from SLHS recently visited Full Circle Gardens.

Full Circle Gardens is part of Ozarks Food Harvest’s efforts to feed the hungry in our community and surrounding counties. We learned that 1 in 5 children and 1 in 6 adults in Greene County experience food insecurity, wondering where their next meal is coming from.

After touring the gardens and receiving gardening instruction, the students worked in the greenhouses, harvesting 137 pounds of lettuce, including romaine, butterhead, and red leaf varieties.
Full Circle Gardens informed us that the lettuce was transported straight to Crosslines pantry after we left, and they were thrilled to receive it for their clients.

“Making connections with youth in the community is such an important part of the long-term solution to hunger, and you all were wonderful to work with. Lettuce (Let us) know if you ever want to plan another visit!”
